Writing, A Poor Man’s Itch

I had a thought this morning…writing is a poor man’s itch.  I love writing.  Writing too me is like sugar is to a child.  I have to have it.  If I don’t scratch my writing itch at least two or three times a week I become a very grabby person.  However, I have yet to make money at this little gig of mine.  Mind you, I’m not complaining.  Just stating the truth.  Writing is a poor man’s itch.

Writing is like drinking the finest wine.  Once you taste it, you never go back.  At least for some of us.  I know there are those of you out there that will never get what I’m talking about.  You’re too analytical, too mathematical, too squares and triangles, to get what I’m talking about.  For some of you, your itch is this:

Or you may have to scratch an itch like this:

Still others are more hands-on artistic that I am:

However, excepting maybe the latter, writing would be the poorest itch of them all.  This is because it takes the longest of all of them to build a portfolio.  It is the hardest market to get people to actually notice.  Lately, people simply aren’t interested in reading paper.  So, for those of us who want to write more than just a blog or an article, one must study and learn how to get oneself published on Kindle or Audible.

Having said this, writing is the most satisfying itch to scratch in the whole wide world. And that is saying something.  I would rather be poor with a pencil than rich and wordless.  So sayeth a poor writer.
